If it’s 11:11am and you are reading this, then the panic is over!!! Because that is the time the world will end, at least that is what the Mayan calendar predicted - December 21.
Last night a small band of Doomsday believers were encamped at the tiny village of Bugarach in south-west France hoping they will be mankind’s sole survivors. And it’s all because of the nearby mountain — which they claim is home to an alien spaceship that will appear and whisk them to safety.
The French were so worried that the village (population 189) would be over-run by Doomsday believers that they drafted in 400 armed police. But they need not have worried — by last night only 25 had turned up. The Doomsday bunch were a motley crew. Several have flowing beards and their dress sense is more hippy than H&M.
BELIEVERS in the Mayan prophecy have flocked to several destinations other than the French village.
UK: Hundreds have converged on Stonehenge for an “End of the World” party.
Events across London include a last supper club where you can enjoy a three-course meal in an “ark.”
RUSSIA: $1,500 tickets for former dictator Josef Stalin’s Moscow bunker went quickly. One thousand people get half back if nothing happens.
SERBIA: Wary Serbs bolted to Mount Rtanj, a peak said to contain a powerful sorcerer who will be released on Doomsday.
ITALY: The supposedly spared town of Cisternino was set to attract hundreds to a party in the piazza.
TURKEY: The village of Sirince was also touted as a haven. Local entrepreneurs produced a wine for the event.
MEXICO: 1,000 cultists were gathering in a convention centre 90 minutes from the Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza.
